Come ‘Try’ it Out – Tickets on Sale for World-Class Rugby Experience

St. George’s, Grenada – Grenada Rugby World 7s (GRW7s) organizers, in partnership with the Grenada Tourism Authority, have announced that tickets for the upcoming ‘Pure Grenada. Pure 7s.’ rugby experience are now officially on sale.

The highly-anticipated event is the longest Club Rugby 7s Tournament in the region and will be held for the very first time in Grenada over 2nd – 3rd December at the National Cricket Stadium.

Over 20 of the world’s best Men’s and Women’s Club rugby teams including international teams from Canada, USA, England, and Wales, as well as regional teams from Barbados, Trinidad and Tobago, and in another first – a team from Grenada itself – are expected to compete for a total prize pool of US$15, 000 in one of rugby’s most popular events. Teams, officials, and fans will also stay on the island for a week of scheduled official activities, providing a significant boost to the Grenadian economy and the local tourism sector.

Grenada Tourism Authority CEO, Petra Roach said “This is an exciting time in the development of our sports tourism offering, and we look forward to welcoming the teams, supporters and rugby enthusiasts for this historic event. Additionally, we are proud that our very own Greenz Rugby Club will be making their debut tournament appearance at GRW7s. We encourage everyone to come out to the National Cricket Stadium on December 2nd and 3rd to support the teams and experience world-class rugby right here in Pure Grenada.”

GRW7s General Manager Brian Stollmeyer said the event is the perfect opportunity for local Grenadians to get to know more about rugby, especially since the island’s own rugby community is just starting to build momentum.

“We have been so impressed to see the local rugby community in Grenada grow exponentially over the past few months,” he said. “Given that rugby is a relatively new sport in Grenada, our event will most certainly generate further interest in this dynamic sport that is full of life-changing opportunities, especially for young people. We encourage both local Grenadians and visitors to the island to get a ticket and come out next month to enjoy the ‘Pure Grenada. Pure 7s.’ experience.”

This year’s event looks set to be just as exciting off the pitch as it will be on. In addition to world-class rugby matches, Stollmeyer said the traditional format of the Tournament has now been expanded to include an exciting family-friendly atmosphere with local entertainment, arts and crafts, food and drinks, and will appeal to a wide variety of event goers.

GRW7s Event Manager George Nicholson expressed his gratitude to GRW7s Presenting Partner the Grenada Tourism Authority, alongside other partners, for their support in getting the Tournament back on the sporting calendar as a premier event after a two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The support we have received from the Grenada Tourism Authority has been unprecedented,” he said. “We would also like to thank our Specialty partners – RTEK Services Ltd., Glenelg Spring Water, Carib Beer, St. James Travel and Tours, Netherlands Insurance, and our Official Referee Suppliers Bristol Sport. We additionally extend our thanks to the many extra individuals and businesses on the ground who have shown their enthusiasm to assist with our event preparations in any way they can.”

With this year’s move to the Spice Isle of the Caribbean, 2022 GRW7s will break new ground by strengthening the synergy between sports and tourism, and sports and entertainment, and will provide teams, officials, and spectators an event experience that has something for everyone.

The newly-formed Grenada Rugby Union is gaining momentum on the island.
