St. George’s, Grenada – Organizers of the Grenada Rugby World 7s (GRW7s) have announced they are partnering with the Rotary Club of Grenada and the Grenada Golf and Country Club to host a local Charity Golf Tournament as part of a week of official GRW7s activities.

Now in its second year, the 2022 Gavin Clark Memorial GRW7s Charity Golf Tournament will be held on Wednesday 30th November at the Grenada Golf and Country Club with proceeds going to the Grenada Cancer Society; honouring Caribbean rugby stalwart and avid Women’s rugby supporter Gavin Clark, who died in 2019.

GRW7s organizers are calling on both locals and visitors alike to consider participating in the Tournament and make the donation of US $100 per person, which includes a round of golf at the beautiful Grenada Golf Course, rental of clubs, green fees, and pushcart, as well as a three-course meal.

Trophies will be given for those taking first to fourth place, as well as for ‘Best Lady’, ‘Best Front 9’, and ‘Best Back 9’, alongside a variety of other prizes including vouchers from some of Grenada’s top restaurants and hotels.

Rotary Club President Juan Bailey said donations to the charity event will greatly contribute to the essential care and support services offered by the Grenada Cancer Society.

“On behalf of the Grenada Cancer Society, we extend our sincerest gratitude to those who have registered to participate, donated prizes, and assisted in the planning of the event,” he said. “If you have ever thought about giving back to the local community in Grenada, now is the time. We want to publicly invite you to join us for an event that both regular golfers and non-golfers will enjoy, and that will support the operations of the Grenada Cancer Society so they can continue to serve those most in need.”

The Charity Golf Event kicks off a busy week of sport in Grenada, with the GRW7s – the longest running Club Rugby 7s Tournament in the Caribbean – to be held over 2nd – 3rd December at the National Cricket Stadium. In partnership with the Grenada Tourism Authority, the event is being hosted in Grenada for the very first time and will bring in some of the world’s best Men’s and Women’s Club rugby teams to the island to compete for a total prize pool of US$15 000.

Petra Roach, CEO of Grenada Tourism Authority (GTA), remarked “We have identified sports tourism as a pillar of growth for our tourism industry. We will continue to develop our sports facilities as well as introduce new sporting events as they generate significant awareness and bring great economic and developmental benefits. We thank the organizers for choosing Grenada as the host destination for this world-class rugby tournament and we are extremely proud to partner with GRW7s for this charity golf tournament benefiting the Grenada Cancer Society. We look forward to welcoming all the participants, supporters, golf and rugby enthusiasts for this exciting experience.”

Tickets for GRW7s are now on sale for EC $10 for Grenadian Residents and US $10 for Non-Residents at selected local outlets and online at www.go2fete.com .
